All gardens vary in size, difficulty of access and ambition however we feel that a starting budget of £6000 will allow the design and build of the basic elements of a garden.
The basic elements are:
Seating area
Lawn
Planting
Vegetables and Herbs
Boundaries
Space division
Steps and levels
You can choose to have just an initial design discussion or hire a landscape designer to oversee the completion of a project on site. Here’s how it works:
1. Percentage Of The Build Cost
The traditional way to pay is as a percentage of the total construction cost. So if you want a landscape designer to work with you on a project from start to finish, expect to pay between 10 per cent and 18 per cent, whereas employing an architect only up to tendering stage costs between 5 per cent and 10 per cent, in line with guidelines laid out by the Society of garden designers.
2. Time Charges
For an initial discussion, a survey or advice, you will be quoted an hourly rate together with an estimate of the time required.
Hourly rates of £45 apply + travel (if outside 40mile radius of Brighton studio.)
