Kemp Town, Brighton. Small Garden.

The problem with small gardens is there is the temptation to overcrowd them with all the things you would like to put in a much larger garden. This garden is north facing and is 6.0m x 1.9m.

This is actually our new garden – the client (the wife) is the most demanding customer I’ve ever had!

Due to the northerly aspect I have combined Buxus sempervirens with Luzula nivea (one of the few shade tolerant grasses). Don’t be afraid to add trees to small gardens. A multistemmed birch can always be coppiced if it starts to become too imposing.
