    It’s time to build another Chelsea Garden!

    Drought will almost certainly hit parts of England next summer unless there is sustained rainfall this winter. The Environment Agency said the south-east of England is at high risk of drought because of continued low rainfall.
    This garden has been designed in response to this situation and aims to inspire the public to create gardens that minimise water usage.

    The layout references the cracks in the earth produced by prolonged dry weather. Water derived from a storm-water channel will permeate the hard-standing area. This will feed into a terraced rainwater pond and recirculated.
    The remainder of the garden is devoted to plants. The plant palette will by european natives tolerant of dry conditions, but also of wet and cold. Siberian steppe planting is the most comparable natural situation where species are exposed to temperature extremes.
